Dear Director,

It gives me great honor to host the District VII, Area 1, Solo and Ensemble Festival.  This is a great opportunity for our students, as well as our band programs.  Many of us have very small programs, programs with limited instrumentation, and students who need encouragement.  These circumstances prevent our students from attending All-District, prevent us from participating in concert festivals/competitions and may hinder student motivation.  Solo-Ensemble Festival will be an excellent tool to help our students grow musically and to afford them a positive and rewarding musical experience.  These personal awards will then help create a better band overall.

Since this is my first time at hosting an event would you please send me an email if you are planning on bringing students?  This will help me to successfully organize and develop this event.  I also need an idea of attendance in order to develop a budget.  Please email your response to sheila.king@scott.k12.va.us.

The Solo and Ensemble event will be held at Rye Cove High School on Monday, May 4, 2009, 4:00 PM to ?  Fees will be as follows:

• $5.00 for each Solo
• $3.00 per person for each duet
• $2.00 per person for trios and larger ensembles

Please complete the following forms and return:

• Director’s Financial Form
• Prepared Selection Pre-Registration Form (one per performance).
• Accompanist Registration Form (if needed)
• Copy of your current MENC Membership Card or the Non-Member fee of $102.00
• Check for student performance fees
• Check for $5.00 for the VBODA fee

Directors should take care of all collecting and handling of money.   Every attempt will be made to accommodate the needs of your students.  Please mark on your registration forms needs for early or late times.  Please let me know what percussion equipment is needed for your students.  The host school is not responsible for supplying mallets and auxiliary percussion items. If a director is not attending the event, you must make sure that the student is sent with a responsible adult and the adult must have proper authorization from the director and the school principal. 
Registration material is due by Monday, April 20, 2009. 

Checks should be payable to RCHS Band – Solo/Ensemble.  All materials should be mailed or faxed to:

I will try to arrange performance times for your group so that they are performing in similar time frames. I hope to get the events schedule and a performance list sent to you prior to the event day, so please be prompt in returning your materials.  I will also send out directions to RCHS. Concessions will be offered by the band boosters.  Please support our boosters and come hungry!
