Ric Munsey called the meeting to order at 7:00pm at Pulaski County High School on Friday, March 28, 2003.

Motion: Accept the minutes as printed from the last meeting on February 1, 2002. The motion was seconded and passed.

OLD BUSINESS:

Marching Festival by Jamie Lawson: Attendance was low this year at District Marching Festival. Ric Munsey passed out a comment sheet. The comment sheet should be filled out and returned to Ric so that he may pass them on to Bill Burke.

District Auditions by Mark Collins: There were no complaints from the faculty of John Battle High School on audition weekend. The numbers were steady with previous years.

Checks were written out to clinicians for travel expenses out of money of district auditions. So these clinicians could be paid on time.

One blind student auditioned for district this year. She was able to listen to the music for 30 seconds and was told her first note of the piece. The student was glad that she was able to participate.

Jr. District by Jamie Lawson: Everything is going well.

Sr. District by Bob Ballengee: Thanks to everyone who helped in getting kids home from Grayson County when it was cancelled.

Hubert Fulton stated that bands need to support other band booster groups. Band booster groups spends numerous hours in preparation for these events as well.

Concert Festival by Noel Collins: Funding should be enough to break even this year. Winter weather concerns were brought up and the fair and unfairness of the state rulings.

Educational benefit of concert festival needs to be stressed by each group listening to other groups performing.

All Virginia Band Auditions: In 2004, a prepared piece will be part of the audition process. The prepared music will be written so that we are not infringing on copyright laws. The music should be easily accessible.

All Virginia Band Clinic: All Virginia Band Clinic will be held in Winchester, VA the weekend of April 3-5 at John Handley High School.
